My Journey

I'm building a life in space science, one semester at a time.

Where I am Now

I’m a Physics & Astronomy PhD student at UTSA in the joint Space Physics program with SwRI. My research focuses on Europa, especially how we use spacecraft data to understand icy moon environments and habitability. Right now I’m building tools for Europa-UVS data analysis and helping prepare for upcoming observation + calibration work.

What I'm Learning

  • How to survive grad school without losing myself

  • What “balance” actually looks like in real life

  • How to deal with impostor syndrome (and keep going anyway)

  • What being a scientist looks like day-to-day

Wins I'm Proud of

  • Learning to ask questions sooner instead of struggling silently

  • Getting more confident with coding + data analysis

  • Finding community in grad school

  • Staying consistent even when motivation dips

What I Wish I Knew

  • You don’t have to be the “smartest.” You have to be consistent.

  • Ask earlier. Confusion doesn’t mean you’re failing.

  • Your worth isn’t your productivity. Rest counts.

  • It's okay to celebrate the small victories.

  • Find your people. Grad school is 10x harder alone.

  • It’s okay to change direction. That’s not quitting, that’s growth.

Just a girl who wants to reach beyond the stars

Hi! I’m Jasmine Singh (aka AstroJaz), a Physics & Astronomy PhD student at UTSA, working with the Southwest Research Institute.

I’ve loved space for as long as I can remember. When I’m having those “I’m not good enough” moments (because yes, they still happen), I remind myself: I went from looking at the stars… to studying them. That alone is pretty wild.

These days, I work on the Europa Clipper mission, supporting the Europa-UVS team by building tools for analyzing far-UV spectral images and helping prep for future observations and calibration work. I also collaborate on projects connecting Europa’s surface + interior to bigger habitability questions (with help from instruments like MASPEX and REASON).

Around here you’ll find: space news + explainers, my grad-school “real life” updates, and resources I wish I had earlier.

Quick facts:

  • 🪐 Icy moons + astrobiology enthusiast (Europa has my whole heart)

  • 🚀 NASA Solar System Ambassador

  • 👩🏽‍🚀 WOC in STEM / big on making space more welcoming
